A
service conference being planned statewide by the New Jersey AFT
in conjunction with Rutgers Universith AAUP Chapter (Also see Rutgers
University Plans). AFT represents adjuncts at all the New Jersey
State Colleges and some of the New Jessey Community Colleges. The
list of State colleges is long. The plan for the conference is to
thank the two legislators who sponsored recent successful legislation
that allows part-timers to buy into the state health benefit plan
at their own expense, and to provide other expert speakers on topics
such as pension, unemployment, etc. This program plan grew out of
what contingent faculty in the state felt was needed.
The
Garden State's Road to Fairness.
Two AFT affiliates in northern New Jersey are using CEW as a springboard
to strengthen their unions and to educate others. The Adjunct Faculty
Federation at Kean University will conduct a union membership drive.
The local affiliate at Union County College will be negotiating
its first contract.
