CEW 2003 ACTION PLANS

Connecticut State Conference, AAUP

Connecticut

The Connecticut State Conference-AAUP will make use of CEW for membership recruitment and to increase awareness of contingent faculty issues on CT Non-CB/Advocacy two and four year campuses.

Campus Equity Week activities around the state include outreach to full and part-time members, local campus leaders, current AAUP members, students, and other campus groups with contingent faculty informational materials, AAUP fact sheets- including highlights from the new AAUP contingent statement, CEW buttons, and screenings of Barbara Wolf?s films "Degrees of Shame" and "A Simple Matter of Justice." Academic freedom, job security, health benefits, compensation, shared governance, and recognition of part-time faculty as integral members of the academic community direct the effort.

This first-time initiative by the Connecticut State Conference-AAUP mirrors activities by other Assembly of State Conferences (ASC) in solidarity with contingent faculty.

Flo Hatcher, Connecticut State Conference-AAUP Executive Director, national AAUP Committee on Contingent Faculty and the Profession chair and longtime part-time activist member of CSU-AAUP, reports Conference plans are formulating to support the Emerson College part-time faculty demonstration October 29 in Boston.
